WhatsApp is working on a new feature that’s all about Meta AI. Specifically, a home screen widget for Android devices. This will put Meta AI front and center on your home screen, as you can see from the screenshot below.
Of course the widget will be optional. It will only appear as an option for those who already have access to Meta AI. This is currently limited to certain countries and select users so the widget definitely won’t be available to everyone upon its launch.
As you can see, the widget has two parts. You can either tap the left side and ask it anything, or tap the right side and choose a photo which will then be instantly shared with Meta AI. Then you will of course be able to ask the chatbot to edit the photo, explain its contents, or address any other questions you may have about it.
Concurrently, WhatsApp is also working on a new tab for AI chats, which will be added to the bottom navigation bar – again, only for those with access.
It’s unclear when these features will go out of beta testing and reach all eligible users. It could be many weeks until we hit that point, or even months. But more Meta AI is definitely coming to WhatsApp.
