WhatsApp is getting some new text formatting options starting today, in order to make your chatting experience better. Before now, you already could go bold, italic, strikethrough, and monospace.
But the additions open up a whole new world of opportunities, with bulleted lists, numbered lists, block quotes, and inline code formatting available now on Android, iOS, Web, and Mac. These were previously in testing.
The image above neatly breaks down what’s new (the first four with the green background) and how you can use these formatting options. They’re all very easy to summon when the need arises, as you can see.
For a bulleted list, just place the “-” symbol before your text followed by a space, and then keep adding more items to the list by rinsing and repeating. The same goes for numbered lists, except in this case you add the number followed by a period and a space – like this: “1. ” And then “2. ” and so on.
For block quotes all you need is the “>” symbol followed by a space and what comes next will be a block quote. Finally, if you want to enter inline code, just wrap the text with “`” – `here’s an example`.
