Spotify Offline Backup automatically creates a playlist for when you’re out of reach

Today Spotify is launching what it thinks is a solution to the problem of having forgotten to download your favorite playlist before hopping on a plane with no Wi-Fi. What to do? Well, there’s nothing you need to do, as Spotify is taking care of things. If you have Premium, that is.

With Offline Backup, the app will automatically create a playlist that’s going to be available on your device, so you can listen to it even when you’re out of reach. It includes your recently streamed and queued tracks, tracks that are already cached on your device.

You can filter and sort songs in the playlist by artist, mood, and genre, and Offline Backup will evolve as you continue to listen, so it promises to always have something new for you.

So when you’re in a no signal area you’ll always have something to listen to, even if you did forget to download some playlists in advance. Offline Backup uses no extra data or storage since it works with already cached tracks.

The new feature is now rolling out to Spotify Premium users globally on both Android and iOS. It will appear automatically in the Home feed anytime you’re offline. For it to show up, you need to have offline listening enabled, and to have listened to more than five songs recently. You can also add Offline Backup to your Library to easily find it at any other time.
