Sony just flipped the script of expectation at the beginning of 2026. They have announced a massive update for the existing Sony ZV-E10 Mark II camera, which unlocks 4K video recording capability at the rate of 120 fps. It’s a new paid license update.
Another significant update, which is obviously packed with the 4K 120p feature, is the Full HD 240 fps recording. This will offer up to 10× slow motion in footage from the camera, a capability not previously available with the original ZV-E10 Mark II.
Sony has made this official update. Announced today (December 10, 2025), the upgrade is set to roll out in mid-to-late December, making it a perfect holiday gift for vloggers, filmmakers, and social media pros.
Why Skip the ZV-E10 III in 2026? Sony’s Smart Strategy for Creators
The Sony ZV-E10 Mark II camera was announced in July 2024 with a 26-megapixel hybrid CMOS AF sensor and the capability to output 4K video at 60p. [As of now, the specs have undergone a massive FW update, now featuring 4 K 120p and Full HD 240p.] Sony generally makes a MODEL UPDATE, specifically in the APS-C ZV series lineup in precise 1,079 days, pointing to a Sony ZV-E10 III arrival around June/July 2027.
So if Sony goes in the scheduled update time of their ZV series camera, then the next Sony ZV-E10 Mark III is coming sometime in June/July 2027, and not in 2026.
So, for now, looking at this massive update and Sony’s scheduled update timeline of the ZV series, no ZV-E10 III looks like coming close to us, at least up to Q3 of 2026. Yes, we can expect ZV-E10 III in the later part of 2026 or the first half of 2027, if the competition remains at the same level, and Canon and Nikon remain busy in updating their full-frame lineup of cameras.. This is what we are expecting in December 2025. If any new updates arrive related to the announcement or early arrival of the camera, we will be updating you first here, but for now the massive update over the ZV-E10 Mark II camera does give us a very clear hint that Sony wants to upgrade their existing ZV-E10 II camera to make it competitive as well as better than other manufacturer offerings in this specific price zone.

How to Get the Upgrade: Timeline, Cost, and Must-Knows
Sony’s making this painless for ZV-E10 II owners (body-only or kit—launched July 2024):
- Rollout Date: Mid-to-late December 2025. The update will get a Global rollout
- Pricing Scoop: Paid at $149 (confirmed via today’s announcement—cheaper than purchasing a new camera )
- Install 101: Grab it from Sony’s Electronics site or apps like Imaging Edge. Enter your serial number, pay up, and boom—firmware flashes in minutes. Bundles for recent buyers (Nov 2024–Dec 2025) might snag discounts.
Not own a ZV-E10 II yet? Grab it now one now from Amazon.com – B&H Store Buy for ~$698 (body) or $798 (with 16-50mm kit). It’s the ultimate holiday flex for aspiring creators.
I think Sony has made a great move by upscaling their camera and removing the locks by asking for money. The ZV-E10 Mark II camera was always capable of capturing 4K 120 fps videos as well as Full HD 240 fps, but again, they had to protect the A6700 camera sales also, and at that time, back in 2024, the ZV-E10 Mark II core specification was more than enough for competitors.
And now, after this update, again, it has been upgraded and has become one of the best content-creator cameras at its price range. Canon and Nikon still have to think about creating a perfect competitor against it. And that’s maybe the reason that Sony found this solution of updating the firmware more efficient than announcing a Mark III camera body in the next 2 to 3 months.
Since whenever a camera maker does a massive update to a camera system, it’s a clear indication that the successor isn’t coming soon, and that’s why they want to keep the existing system updated against the market competition.
