We have very fresh and exciting information related to the Canon R6 Mark III. The Canon R6 Mark III camera will arrive before September 15th. Finally, we have the confirmation, it’s coming within September 2025. Canon USA is now preparing for the Canon R6 Mark III camera teasers to be posted on schedule on social media channels, before the announcement. The month is filled with excitement since Nikon is about to release their Z Cinema Camera on September 10th, making it one of the hottest months of the year. I am really super excited about both announcements.
Jan (famous content creator, Birdography, and Canon user ) has sparked anticipation by stating, “it seems like the R6 Mark III is only a few days away from its announcement. In fact, it will be announced before the 15th of September.” He further noted that “there will be a few teasers and an announcement in the next couple of weeks,” pointing to a reveal in early September 2025.
Sensor Resolution
No 24-megapixel stacked sensor from the R3 is coming inside the R6 Mark III camera. Instead, the Canon R6 Mark III will have a traditional BSI CMOS sensor. Also, as usual, Canon’s research and development team will tweak the readout speed of the sensor so it can match the Z6 Mark III’s partially stacked CMOS sensor speed. Resolution-wise, the approximately 30.3 megapixels. I will share the full specification sheet here once it becomes available.
Design and Ergonomics
The physical nature will remain the same as the Canon R6 Mark II and the Canon R5 Mark II, so technically, there is not much difference in the design of the camera. But we do have a reason to be excited since it’s coming with a free-angle display screen just like the ones we have seen in the new Sony cameras. “A new design for the rear screen. Hopefully something like what Sony does with their cameras, because it’s amazing to be able to basically fold it in any direction you want,” Jan said. Again, this will be a phenomenal thing to have such an advanced screen coming inside Canon cameras, starting with our favourite—the upcoming Canon R6 Mark III.
Dual Pixel Intelligent AF (AI-driven)
Just like the Canon R5 Mark II camera, we will have a Dual Pixel Intelligent Autofocus system inside the Canon R6 Mark III, AI-driven improvements, and the camera AI AF upscales itself based on your photography and videography patterns with the help of a deep learning program. The camera will be able to cover 100% horizontal and 100% vertical face + 3D moving subject detection, as well as the inclusion of Registered People Priority (up to 10 × 10 registered people for prioritisation); Action Priority (soccer, basketball, volleyball with specific action recognition like shooting, passing, dribbling).
Video Features: A Hybrid Focus
Initial reports suggest the camera does have 6K 60FPS RAW video recording ability. After that, we have a mixed bag of information, which also includes 4K 120FPS uncropped video recording mode for the first time in Canon R6 series cameras. But for me, it’s really hard to believe, specifically the 4K 120FPS rumour. Until I see it printed on Canon USA’s website, I am not going to believe this, since this is quite something that I really do not expect from a camera brand like Canon.
TheNewCamera.com’s Perspective
We are just a week or so away from the Canon R6 Mark III camera’s official announcement. The initial set of specifications that we are getting is truly remarkable. Not only the still core specifications, but also the video core specs make the Canon R6 Mark III a hybrid professional mirrorless camera. So I would say it will be a very compelling camera that many, many people would love to use.
Stay tuned for the latest updates as we approach the anticipated announcement date.
